About Penguin Engineering

Opening Hours

Monday to Thursday 0900 to 1600 hours

Trading since 1982, Penguin Engineering has become a small mainstay of the marine business over the 40 plus years that we’ve been around, though we’ve never made a lot of noise about it. Though well-known to any boatbuilder worth his salt, the same could apply to the brands that we represent. A yacht is an assembly of thousands of other manufacturers’ components and it wouldn’t float without them, but it’s only the brand of the finished product that we remember!

Penguin Engineering has gradually built up a portfolio of European built, high quality marine products that we are very proud to represent. For us, a “quality” product must not only perform well in the harshest of environments but it must be supported, through the provision of spares, support and a bit of old-fashioned personal service, over a long product life. This is and has always been our contribution to the necessary drive for sustainability in all things.

We have a small showroom at our warehouse premises on Hayling Island and we have a rapidly growing and informative website with more products, information, spares and videos being added daily.

We also supply equipment to marine engineers and bespoke boatbuilders in the UK, including manufacturers of commercial boats, pleasure cruisers, superyachts, launches and the most famous of the big British powerboat brands.

Typically the range includes specialised versions of standard ‘household’ items such as stainless steel sinks, but with dimensions and characteristics more appropriate to their marine usage. The products have therefore found much wider application ranging from motorhomes, hotels, restaurants, government buildings and night clubs to dental surgeries, horse boxes and Formula One base vehicles.

Penguin is the sole UK importer for the following equipment brands

ENO

If your sailing or motor boat was produced by one of the big European builders within the last 25 years, it’s odds-on that you’ve been cooking on an ENO. Good news, because if and when it’s finally time to retire your oven, there will be a new ENO that will drop into the space with minimal fuss. Eno is the largest marine oven builder by a country mile, with a great reputation for longevity and support – ask any gas engineer!

From the simple and robust ENO ONE to the full-featured ULTIM, we’ll have an ENO for everyone and we carry spares across the range.

FORCE 10

Of Canadian origin and now produced in France, Force 10 is an iconic brand and is the cooker of choice for offshore sailors who love to eat well at sea. From their patented oven door mechanism to the super-efficient burners, a Force 10 cooker is a joy to use, even on the toughest of voyages.

BARKA

Barka , with headquarters and production facilities in Northern Italy, has been around since 1966. Originally a boatbuilder and still in family ownership, Barka has developed to be an enormously respected marine component manufacturer. Many of the great boatbuilders, from runabouts to superyachts, will have Barka equipment fitted somewhere on board.

Barka taps, showers and faucets come in an almost bewildering array of shapes and sizes, most of which can be seen at our showroom on Hayling Island! We also supply Barka sinks, also Italian-made from heavy gauge stainless steel and in a range of sizes and finishes to suit any boat or commercial project.

Barka also design and manufacture fixed, gas and electric chair and table pedestals, as well as electric lifting struts. A common application for their struts can be for opening yacht engine room doors, but we often work on custom home and industrial projects where “marine” standards are required.

Barka also supply accumulators.

Penguin ships from Barka every two weeks, so even for custom items you’ll never be waiting for long.

ATI Calorifiers

ATI Marinari of Italy has specialized in the production of marine and domestic water heaters since 1973. Production of their 100% pressure tested range of stainless and enamel lined water heaters is carried out to ISO 9001 standards. We can supply any capacity from 12 to 200 litres and should you ever need one, Penguin always carries a range of spares!

Carbonautica

Based in Slovenia, Carbonautica is a long-established manufacturer of composite steering wheels, passerelles and flagstaffs.

Atlas Filtri Water Filtration

As you sail further afield (and maybe not so far nowadays!) a reliable source of clean water can never be guaranteed and with this in mind, boat owners are turning to the reassurance of a good water filter in their system. Atlas Filtri units and replacement filters are widely available throughout the world and Penguin is their UK distributor. We carry the most popular single and twin filter units and cartridges.

Teak Wonder

Finally, here’s a product that everyone who has a teak deck will recognise! Incredibly, 2023 sees the 50th year since Teak Wonder was introduced. Their three-step system cleans, brightens and finally seals your teak to a natural, just-sanded finish. These shots from a beautiful old Nicholson 35 were taken in March 2023: she’s the same yacht that was filmed as a Teak Wonder promotion some 23 years ago!

If you are looking to fit-out your boat, caravan, home or business with quality equipment, we are the people you need to speak to. We offer good sound practicable advice from over 40 years experience in the marine industry.
