Electric, gas and manual pedestals information

For over 30 years Barka has been designing the widest range of table and chair supports in the business with their entire production based in Northern Italy. Penguin Engineering is their sole UK distributor and has worked alongside Barka for this whole time. You can view and buy our full product range, along with spares here.

We have a short video here on the range of gas, manual and electric pedestal.

The production includes components specifically designed for nautical use and as everything is done in house they can engineer parts suitable for any number of different power, stroke and size requirements. Chair and table supports can be fixed in height which we've covered in a separate video or adjustable. Adjustable pedestals can be operated manually, by gas or electrically.

Here we have some typical typical examples of what's possible in these three categories. Firstly this manual chair pedestal has twin handles, the lower handle here is to allow for movement up and down and the top handle locks and unlocks to allow for some rotation. On top there are four threaded holes to which you can add a fixed plate, such as this, or a sliding plate such as this, which will allow for some lateral movement. This is also available to support tables.

This gas powered table pedestal has a brushed and polished aluminum finish which is really well suited to higher end applications. It has a minimum height of 440 mm and a maximum height of 730 mm so it's ideal for conversion between dining or coffee table heights. This one has a rectangular table plate but we can supply them with different shaped fixed or sliding plates and there's also a version for chairs and helm seats.

This is an electric chair pedestal with a protrusion. The collar on this protrusion allows you to set the minimum height of the pedestal. The motor provides a range of adjustment or a stroke length of 130 mm. As the name suggests, part of the pedestal is designed to protrude below the deck or the seat platform. By adjusting the position of this collar you can adjust the depth of the protrusion and correspondingly the minimum height of the pedestal above the platform.

Electric chair and table pedestals can be powered using 12 or 24 volt DC, although we can now offer a battery powered table support that eliminates the need for wiring and allows the table to be relocated to wherever you please. We can also offer two and even three-stage pedestals which can further reduce the minimum height. The three-stage version is so compact that you can now lower a table until it's completely flush with the floor to fully open up the space.

Using the same technology as Barka lifting struts it's possible to perfectly synchronize a pair, or even as many as six pedestals at once, allowing them to smoothly raise and lower very large and heavy tables or other objects.

These examples have only skimmed the surface of what's possible but if you go to our website you'll find all of the options if you can't find exactly what you're looking for please give us a call on 02392 465607 as customisation is never a problem.
